Custom Masterbath on Camano Island

We have been working on a master bathroom here on Camano Island for the past few months.

The layout was completely reconfigured. We begun by tearing out existing walls and framing up new walls. We then put in wainscoting in the main bathroom area. The vanity is a custom color stained alder with inset drawers. The top drawers were designed to wrap around the sinks to give more storage space.

A Designer Shares Her Master-Bathroom Wish List

Bathroom vanity from a custom cabinet job we did in Bellingham, WA

Designer Jennifer Ott plans her own bathroom renovation. Here’s a few things she thought to include. What amenities are must-haves in your remodel or new build?

1. Double undermounted sinks: Double sinks are always popular when you have two people getting ready at the same time. The undermount sinks make for easy clean-up.

2. Single-handle faucet and a built-in soap dispenser: The single-handle faucets make it easy to turn on and off without having to twist multiple knobs. Built-in soap dispensers help keep the bathroom clutter organized.

2. Glass-free, curbless shower: This set-up reduces the cleanup time for the shower. This setup does require a pretty sizable shower, however, to prevent water from spraying out the open side of the shower and into the rest of the room.

3. Separate water closet: It obviously requires more space, but if you relish your privacy and have the space for it, it’s a nice bathroom amenity.

4. Radiant-heat floors: A very nice option especially on those cold mornings.

5. Minimal grout: Minimizes the cleaning process.

6. Proper lighting: Good lighting is vital in a bathroom, both natural daylight and built-in.

Design Basics to Help You Think Through a New Master Bath

Masterbath Cabinet

from Moon Bros Inc

There is a lot of options when designing a masterbath, here’s some ideas…

Here’s a few tips:

1. Sinks: The most common configuration aligns two sinks within a cabinet, while more luxurious and larger spaces may be arranged with independent cabinets, giving each person a personal countertop.

2. Showers: Showers must be positioned so that moisture and overspray are contained to water-resistant areas. Consider whether you want your shower to be more open to the space and enclosed with glass or more enclosed and private.

3. Toilets: Place toilets where they are out of sight lines, whether or not they have their own small rooms. Windows in these rooms are desirable, but if they are not possible, exhaust fans will work.

4. Linen Closets: There never seems to be enough storage, so having a dedicated linen closet in a bathroom can be a good idea. You will still have storage in cabinets and drawers around the sink unless you choose a pedestal-style version. In that case a storage cabinet of some type will be required.

Ideas to make your bathroom unique

Wainscoting Bathroom

With just a few like touches you can transform your bathroom into a practical, relaxing retreat that’s overflowing with personality

1. Experiment with wall treatments: Are you bored with your floor-to-ceiling bathroom tiles? Then take design cues from your living zone and ditch wall tiles in favor of wallpaper, wood wall panels or a striking painted feature wall instead.

2. Make your bath zone will feel homier and full of life: By adding some decorative accents and personal touches and introducing housewares and other furnishings that you’d usually find in a living area to your bathroom.

3. Add some elements that go beyond standard bathroom storage: Try adding some open shelving or bookcases. Photos and decorative accents are also scattered across the shelves to give the setup a custom, personalized touch.

4. Introduce soft furnishings to make it more relaxing: . Want to make your bath area feel infinitely more peaceful and inviting? Introducing soft furnishings that are usually found in the living zone to your bathroom is one way to do just that. Think rugs, upholstered chairs and ottomans, and breezy curtains.

5. You can create a space that ties in beautifully with the rest of your home: Drawing inspiration from your living room when revamping your bathroom has more benefits than simply making the space more relaxing, personal and practical. It will also make your bath zone feel and look like an extension of your living space.

Wheelchair Accessible Bathroom Cabinets and Closet Organizer in Marysville, WA

We just completed both a master bathroom and closet system designed for wheelchair accessibility. To reduce the possible damage to the cabinets, oak with a clear finish was used. Also the use of fingerpulls on the cabinets instead of knobs, removed the chance of getting caught as you move pass.

The doors under the sink, open and slide in to allow access in the wheelchair

For the closet, we again used oak with a clear finish to reduce damage to the cabinetry. The closet uses 3 pull-down closet rods, making it easy to access clothes on the upper rack. There is also a pull-out shelf allowing a surface to place clothes. There is plenty of shelving and drawers to reduce clutter and keep everything organized.
