Wheelchair Accessible Bathroom Cabinets and Closet Organizer in Marysville, WA

We just completed both a master bathroom and closet system designed for wheelchair accessibility. To reduce the possible damage to the cabinets, oak with a clear finish was used. Also the use of fingerpulls on the cabinets instead of knobs, removed the chance of getting caught as you move pass.

The doors under the sink, open and slide in to allow access in the wheelchair

For the closet, we again used oak with a clear finish to reduce damage to the cabinetry. The closet uses 3 pull-down closet rods, making it easy to access clothes on the upper rack. There is also a pull-out shelf allowing a surface to place clothes. There is plenty of shelving and drawers to reduce clutter and keep everything organized.

Things to Do Before the Renovation Begins

Home remodeling projects can be extremely disruptive to daily life. But a little smart planning ahead of time can make things run more smoothly.

Here’s a few tips:

1. Pare down and pack up: Go through the room(s) that will be part of the remodel and pare back to the essentials. When you must go without your kitchen, it makes no sense to have to dig through mountains of stuff just to find your coffee mug and cereal bowl. Keep the things you will still be able to use in an accessible location and pack up the rest in boxes. If possible, move the boxes to a storage area that’s out of the main flow of traffic through the house — it’s going to feel crowded enough as it is with the workers and all of their gear.

2. Put rolling storage units to work: For the things you do want to access during the remodel, consider filling up a few storage carts on casters. This type of cart is lightweight and easy to move, and stores things in plain view so you can quickly find what you need.

3. Protect your privacy: Move your private items, do whatever you need to do now before the work begins

4. Get your most important stuff together.Once work begins it can suddenly seem impossible to find anything. Get your stuff together now and put it all in one place — somewhere well out of the remodeling zone

5. Don’t forget danger zones This is especially true with children and pets

Steps to Surviving a Remodel

Knotty Alder Custom Kitchen

Living through a kitchen remodel isn’t always fun, but these steps will help you work around a kitchen in disarray.

Here’s a few tips:

1. Designate a kitchen stand-in: Eating out all the time gets tiresome, not to mention the strain it can put on your budget.

2. Winnow down your kitchen gear: During a remodel, your cooking and eating routine will be disrupted, and no matter how much you love to cook, ambitious meals will be a challenge.

3. Plan meals around small appliances: Move your fridge to your temporary kitchen, if possible.

4. Stock the pantry with disposables

5. If the weather cooperates, put your grill to work

6. Keep a stash of nonperishable snacks

7. Remember the big picture
